Like most of us, for most of my life I accepted the HIV theory of AIDS. It scared me. It seemed lik a tidal wave that was approaching the shore on which I lived. It reached friends of mine very eary - some of them died of AIDS in isolation hospitals in the mid 1980s. My skills as an investigative journalist then seemed totally irrelevant. I thought there was nothing that I could do that might in any way be of any use.

But when in 1995 a brother of mine asked if I could help a parent with research into vaccines, I agreed for the first time to look into a medical matter. I thought at least I could discover what relevant research was out there and put this into plain English.

In my forthcoming very comprehensive article I trace the steps that then took me to research contaminants in vaccines, then to monkey virus contaminants and eventually to HIV. I then spent two years or more searching to see if there could possibly be a link between a vaccine and the spread of HIV.

But what I learnt along the way about the nature of retroviruses astonished me - they are in all cellular creatures, produced by all healthy cells. So how then was HV, a retrovirus, proved so dangerous? And how did an African chimp virus start an epidemic among gay partying men?

I then searched out the foundation AIDS science papers, and all relating documents, to discover just when and how AIDS was discovered to be caused by HIV.

The heart of my forthcoming article is about what I then discovered.

This is not an article that sets out to balance and judge conflicting scientific views - but a forthright work of investigative journalism. What I went to these scientific papers, in particular to the four published in early May 1984 in the Science journal , was for a better understanding of AIDS.

What I found shocked me. I discovered forsenic evidence of serious scientific fraud, of papers IIt fixed and evidence being forged - as verified by the highest security institutions, those charged with looking after the security of the US president - including much evidence that has never been published before.

This is a story that goes to the very top of the scientific and political establishment.
